Morning all
Kind of awake again after last night, now sipping my morning tea. Time for my personal news roundup:
- Being paid for not using my car sounds good to me. May be I should ask my employer about this as well? Not sure if I'd qualify as I walk anyway (it's a less than ten minutes walk), but then some of my neighbours drive that distance...
- Got some cash to spare and want to be in a film? May be be involved in some wizardry? Then bid for a role in the next Harry Potter film.
- Celtic 5 - Hearts 0. Enough said.
- Here's another list for you: The nations 21 favourite books (Also in the Sunday Herald). Hm, I've only read one of them, but I'm not telling which one ;-) Can you guess it? And tell me if I should read any of the others or if I should just stick to my tastes?
- Apparently there are discussions about capital gains tax for house sales. On one hand this makes sense, on the other hand I have my doubts: Why would you tax someone for moving house, e.g. if they change job and need to move somewhere else? Isn't that just a recipe for making the labour market more inflexible? Or to make traffic congestion even worse as even more people will commute instead of moving closer to their work?
- BusinessWeek writes that Britons are getting fed up with video surveillance and speed cameras. And the Sunday Herald reports that they don't really prevent shoplifting. Another fad on the road to death soon?
- Susan Flockhart has a few proposals for new policies on antisocial behaviour. Interesting concepts.
That's enough news roundup. Time to get out a bit. And then back to the Scotland Summer 2003 travelogue...
