Five Things Meme. Got To Do It.

So there I was, sitting at my computer, surfing away, reading the blogs, writing the odd entry myself, drinking copious amounts of tea, eating too much cake, the kind of things you do on a lazy Christmas holiday. And then it hit me. I thought I had managed to avoid it, having seen it on quite a few other blogs. But then Marianne hit me with the five not widely known things about me meme. No way of ignoring such a request, may be from a few other bloggers, but not from Marianne. Well then, here's what I can come up with, five things about me possibly not widely known among other bloggers:

  1. I've jumped out of a plane. On my own. Voluntarily. Admittedly, there was a line attached to the plane. Which in turn was attached to the release of the parachute. Which in turn was attached to my back. The jump was with the Silver Stars and we (there were several of us) probably looked similar to these static line parachute jumpers.
  2. I don't like peas. Hate their taste. I'll eat them if there's nothing else to eat at all, but otherwise go out of my way to avoid them.
  3. When I was in the army I won several internal long distance running competitions, which was good because it earned me a few additional days of holiday. Back then my personal best for the 5000 metres was around 17min, I think just under 17min. The 10k I think I ran in about 37 or 38 minutes. Don't know how long it would take me now, more than 15 years later.
  4. A long long time ago I learned to play the guitar, well, kind of. I think I was pretty bad, so luckily for everyone around I gave up.
  5. I'm mixed-handed (with a slight favour towards right-handedness). I write, use the knife and brush my teeth with my right hand. But I drink, use spoon and fork and shave with my left hand. My mouse is on the right, but I typically use my left hand for the phone, in particular my mobile phone. A lot of the things I do with my left hand I can do with the right, but I struggle and automatically switch back to the left hand for them. In other words, I'm not a true ambidextrous person.

Right, now I'm supposed to tag five other bloggers to do this. Let's start with the rest of the Top 5 gang. Come on guys, this meme lends itself to a Top 5 entry! Then let's try fellow Swindon blogger Tim Almond. Moving up north let's try Stuart Meldrum. Next over the big pond let's remind Mr Bancroft, I don't think he's done it yet. Even further away let's try Ricardo in Brasil. That's five.

With that out of the way I think I should really get going with the last update of the Blogging Abroad (Expat Bloggers) list for 2006...
