Weird Wonderful World
Sunday afternoon, it's sunny outside and I should really be outside. But then I've got the first sign of what feels like a nasty cold, there's still a very cold wind blowing and I don't feel like going outside. So I'm going to blog a few links while I wait for the sun to come round to shine through the window and then I'm going to sit in the sun with a nice cuppa and listen to some music. Sounds like a plan, doesn't it? Before I forget, here are the links:
- I used to cycle a lot in Germany, but hardly ever do here in the UK. The infrastructure just isn't very good for cycling, only a few alibi cycle lanes here in Swindon (and I walk to work anyway). To put me off even further the BBC has collected pictures of crazy and bizarre cycle lanes.
- When I first read the headline I thought why is that news: OAPs stuck after lift breaks down. Don't people get stuck in lifts all the time? Then I read something about stuck since Christmas Day, which sounded a bit long, surely it couldn't take that long to get them out? Turns out that they're stuck on the top floor of their residential home because the lift is broken and it's taken much longer than expected to get the spare parts. Oh, and I think that article was edited after I first read it. I'm fairly sure it said kirk and not church when I read it yesterday morning.
- I've mentioned the Magic Roundabout before, but only in current context. Now we can go back more than 30 years, the BBC has dug out footage from the implementation of the Magic Roundabout in 1972 (with black & white video). Enjoy!
- Staying on the topic of driving: What can you do while driving? One thing is certain, putting on make-up is not among it.
- And finally a few pictures: Apart from going running in the hills (and taking pictures of it) Chris Upson also takes interesting pictures, I find his pictures of the Red Road Tower Blocks at Balornock fascinating. Slightly further away the pictures a helicopter pilot has taken of Mexico City (via Kai 'dogfood' Pahl).
