Bombenanschlaege

Gross neues ueber die heutigen Bombenanschlaege in London kann ich wohl nicht beitragen, jedenfalls habe ich mich entschlossen trotz der Anschlaege mit den Eintraegen zur Sprachenwoche fortzufahren und zweisprachig ein wenig zu den Anschlaegen zu schreiben. Alles wissenwerte gibt es auf den Sonderseiten der BBC, etwas persoenlichere Berichte und Meinungen insbesondere bei London Leben (auf Deutsch) und bei Europhobia (auf Englisch).

Hier in Swindon war die Reaktion aehnlich wie anscheinend fast ueberall anders: Man hat sich informiert und ist dann wieder zur Arbeit uebergegangen, dies ist jedenfalls der Tenor der meisten Blogs auf dem UKBlogs Aggregator. Auf dem Bahnhof von Swindon hat man ein verdaechtiges Paket gefunden, das stellte sich dann aber wohl als harmlos heraus (siehe auch dieser Augenzeugenbericht). Ebenso ein verdaechtiger Brief bei Lloyds TSB.

Obwohl ich ja schon recht lange hier lebe und auch einige vorherige Anschlaege 'miterlebt' habe (z.B. London Docklands 1996, Manchester 1996) war ich doch wieder fasziniert wie damit umgegangen wird. Diese 'wir lassen uns doch von Terroristen nicht einschuechtern' Einstellung, auch wenn sie auf langer leidvoller Erfahrung mit Terrorismus beruht. Bomb Attacks

I can't contribute much if anything new about the bomb attacks in London today, but at any rate I've decided to continue with entries in the spirit of Language Week and write a little bit about the attacks in two languages. Everything important there is to know can be found on the special pages by the BBC, more personal accounts in particular at London Leben (in German) and at Europhobia (in English).

The reaction here in Swindon seems to have been similar to most other places: people gathered the latest information about what had happened and then went back to work, at least that seemed to be the general feeling of what I read at most blogs in the UKBlogs Aggregator. A suspicious package was found at Swindon Railway Station, which seems to have turned out as more or less harmless (see also this eye witness report). Similar a suspicious letter found at Lloyds TSB.

Even though I've lived here for quite a long time now and have even 'experienced' a few earlier attacks (e.g. London Docklands 1996, Manchester 1996) I was still impressed with how people deal with the attacks. This 'we won't surrender to terrorists' attitude, even when built on long years of painful experience with terrorism. See also this Letter To The Terrorists (via Europhobia).
