Links I Found Interesting Recently
My folder with links to blog about has grown way too big again, so I decided to blog about several of them now. Some of them don't really warrant their own entry anyway, but they might fit quite well into this link potpourri:
- US draws up space tourism rules. Nothing wrong with that. But one of the main points seems to be that
space tourists must be screened to ensure they are not terrorists
. And:The draft report's suggestions aim to prevent a terrorist from destroying a spacecraft or using it as a weapon
. Now I don't know the details of these space flight programs, but I would guess they won't exactly be cheap. Yes, terrorists usually have some money, but probably not the amounts required to pay here. Flying the spaceships will probably require specialist skills, not exactly skills you can learn on a simulator or some no-questions-asked flying school in Texas or Florida.However, the FAA has so far left any medical requirements in the hands of the tourist, who should decide themselves if they are fit to fly.
Yep, someone getting priorities right. - Wooster Collective
The Wooster Collective was founded in 2001. This site is dedicated to showcasing and celebrating ephemeral art placed on streets in cities around the world.
I quite liked the banana phone and the face facade/ garage door - Internet lampposts to be trialled. Wireless internet access from lampposts, that sounds quite clever to me. At least within urban areas this could create excellent coverage pretty much everywhere. If they can secure this and have a good roaming program this sounds really good.
- Unfortunately not running at the moment is Dead Ringers, although if you have DAB radio you can listen to some repeats on BBC 7. Great comedy and impersonations.
- Blogs offer taste of war in Iraq, with further links to milblogs (apparently that's what they're called). Not sure what to think of them yet, but then haven't really read much of them so far. Might be interesting though for a different view of what's happening down there.
- Swindon from the highest building in Swindon: Swindon Photos, from the David Murray John Tower. I think I've got a few pictures of the tower somewhere as well, but none from the top as it isn't open to the public. The pictures only confirm what I knew anyway: Swindon town centre is ugly, regardsless from where you look.
- There are blogs for all kinds of topics out there, here is Streetlights, a blog about, yes, you guessed right, street-lighting. It even has an entry about the streetlights at the Magic Roundabout. Yes, that's that Magic Roundabout.
