The idea had been in my head for ages, a cross border co-operation and comment discussion has made it reality. What? A video of driving through the famous Magic Roundabout in Swindon.
Some background of how this came together:
I had thought about this for ages, but never got round to actually do it. Then we had a discussion about it in an entry about a roundabout in Germany yesterday. And I thought, OK, let's do it. Some of it decidedly low tech: I taped a cheap tripod (actually a freebie that came with a magazine a year ago) to the dashboard of my car. Attached the camera (Nikon Coolpix 3100) to it and left. With the camera set to video and turned on I approached the roundabout. Then I only had to press the button to start the recording while concentrating on the traffic during my way through the Magic Roundabout. I did this three times, recording three different videos. Back home I downloaded them to my laptop and encountered a problem:
I didn't have any video editing software and the videos as downloaded from the camera didn't support fast-start progressive downloads. Uploading them to my site that way seemed a bit pointless. majo at IT&W came to the rescue. I e-mailed him the videos, he edited them into one, converted them to fast start and put it online. Enjoy.
More information about the roundabout also at my Magic Roundabout in Swindon page. At some point I'll probably add a page with a video and some details what you can see there as well. Once QuickTime Pro 7 for Windows is final. I might also create more pointless videos then...
