Saturday Link Dump
The folder I use to store links I want to blog about is quite big at the moment after a quite busy week where I didn't get around to blog much. Looks like it's time for another slightly longer posting with a few links about a variety of topics. I hope you'll find something interesting among them:
- Some people claim market forces and liberalising as much as possible is the solution to pretty much everything. I have my doubts that it will really work, as the problems some islanders face with mail order charges demonstrates. Commercial companies will just cherry-pick the services where they can make the most profit (which will typically be in cities) while the rural population (and in particular people living in more remote areas) is likely to suffer. I don't think that's a viable option for the future.
- Over in Germany Der Spiegel is writing about and heaping praise on David Finkenstädt who runs Beepworld (English page). Beepworld offers some kind of free homepage service (and charges for some additional options, which apparently earns him quite a lot of money). I'm not so happy with Beepworld though: My logfiles list quite a few pages from Beepworld hotlinking my pictures. I've complained to Beepworld, guess what, nothing happened...
- I think I mentioned this before, looks like it might be happening now as I received a letter this week from Saga about their likely flotation. The Independent and the BBC pick up on it as well. May be not as exciting and "cool" as the Google flotation, but I think it's one to watch.
- Let's do some Bush bashing: The CEO Test for Bush and The George W Bush the President Doesn't Want the World To See. Not that it matters in the Memogate discussion currently dominating the campaigns...
- Tricks of the Trade. Some interesting tricks. I wonder if someone has a trick to solve this approaching disaster...
- Apparently I'm a Linguistic Spatial Intrapersonal Thinker, at least according to the What kind of thinker are you? quiz. And you?
