Sunday Evening
After the lazy weekend some time for a quiet Sunday evening. Quiet? Well, as quiet as it gets when you live close to Old Town Swindon: The kids are out with their souped up cars again, the bass of the stereo turned up as loud as possible to compete with the exhaust and the engine roar. Quite interesting when you can feel the sound a good 100 metres away.
I must be getting old.
Anyway, have a few links to get you through the evening and/or start of the week:
- Euro 2004 isn't far away. Scotland didn't bother to qualify. I'm a bit indifferent about England, but I don't think they'll get very far (as usual). I'm unsure about Germany, who just lost their last game before Euro 2000. They probably improve again during the tournament as usual, especially considering that their first opponents don't seem to be in top form either.
- The Asia Times asks an interesting question: US: Where have all the terrorists gone? While there have been terrorist (and in particular Al Qeada) attacks in various countries around the world, nothing has happened in the US since 11/Sep/2001. Does this mean something is imminent (keeping in mind the election is fast approaching) or the terrorist threat has been exaggerated? And how well is the US (or any other country for that matter) prepared for potential attacks? While a lot of people are afraid of a large scale Sep/11 style attack, a number of smaller attacks on "insignificant" targets might have a much larger impact. - Modern gadgets raise work stress writes the BBC, based on research at the University of Surrey. I'm probably guilty of some of the things mentioned in the report, although I'm trying to reduce it. In particular I'm getting better and better at not answering the phone when I'm talking with someone (e.g. in my office), after all that's what voicemail is there for. When I'm talking with someone I should give them full attention and then follow up with whoever called. And if they didn't leave a message it probably wasn't important anyway.
With that the weekend is over, time to get to bed. Good night.
