Walking Wiltshire
I linked to Walking Britain in an entry yesterday, which covers all of Britain. It's a bit far to drive from Swindon to Yorkshire just for a walk, so I thought I take a look for something closer to home. Here's what I found:
- Walker's Web seems to have good walks for Wiltshire as well as Gloucestershire. For each walk you can download a PDF file with a map and route description. Looks promising. And he gets a review by the BBC.
- BestWalks.com has a list of books for Walking in Wiltshire.
- Walking on the web has a page for Wiltshire with some long walks, however, the descriptions are quite short and there are no maps either.
- WalkingWorld.com seems to have a few walks for Wiltshire, but: The site doesn't really work with Mozilla (it seems to work with IE), I can't link easily to specific walks and it charges for the walks. I don't mind so much about paying for a service, but at least it should work in all browsers then. Meaning I'm unlikely to use this one.
- Achinglegs has walks around Salisbury, The New Forest and South Wessex. Not too far from Swindon, so I might try some of them.
Those are the main results from a quick search, I'm sure there's more out there. May be some other time. After I've tried some of the walks above over the coming weekends.
