The BBC is unlikely to be slashdotted, but they write about people whose site became too popular unexpectedly. I think this is an interesting question, what responsibilities do pages like Slashdot have when they link to pages, generating huge traffic? Say someone puts a funny video online to share it with a few friends and this somehow finds its way to the Slashdot (or similar) frontpage? Some people say it's the website owners problem, he shouldn't have put it online if he can't cope with the traffic. Others argue that large sites also have a certain responsibility when they link to "small" sites they can't expect to be able to deal with the traffic. I don't know the answer yet.
