While there might be showers on the way to end the current heatwave in Britan it seems it will be hot in Scotland for a few weeks. Assuming the forecasts are correct this might fall right into my upcoming holiday. I have now made a decision about where I'm going to go and started making further bookings:
I'll travel up the "central route", potentially stopping at the Cairngorms and going hillwalking if the weather permits it. The majority of the first week will then be spent in Wester Ross, where I'm going to stay at the Kinlochewe Hotel. Travelling south again I'm planning to take a "western route", possibly stopping near Kyle of Lochalsh, or may be even at the Cluanie Inn for some Glen Shiel hillwalking. Quite likely I'll leave that for next year though, I'm hoping to do enough walking in Wester Ross already.
As already mentioned, the second week will then mostly be spent on the Isle of Islay. No surprises there.
Once the final decisions and bookings are made I'll have to start getting the necessary maps together and decide on which music to take with me for the drive up to Scotland. Roddy Woomble of Idlewild is just about to release his debut solo album My Secret Is My Silence, I think that one will be on the list. He was on the Tom Robinson show on BBC 6 on Tuesday and sounded very good. The album also features Karine Polwart who I mentioned recently and whose album will probably end up on the shopping list as well.
