Solving the Pension Crisis
Not many people will be surprised to hear that we have a pension crisis in the UK and in other places. But help is at hand, the Scottish Licensed Trade Association (no website?) has some helpful advice: Don't introduce a smoking ban because smokers live shorter, therefore reducing the burden on our pension and care systems. Clever idea, I think we should expand on that theme (warning, cynicism ahead):
- Safety belts and motorbike helmets should be made optional for the over 50s, speed limits abolished.
- Free hard drugs for everyone. Drug users live shorter and drug related crime disappears at a stroke.
- Abolish all tax on alcohol, combined with 24 hour binge drinking. The loss in taxes will be more than compensated by drinkers dying earlier and therefore saving on pension costs.
This would also restore choice as well as freedom, something politicians keep reminding us we want above all.
I think that's enough cynicism...
