The main purpose of my walks is to just enjoy the walks and in particular the views, not ticking off a list of summits I've reached. Otherwise I would have to be quite disappointed after the first two days of this holiday. Yesterday I didn't have enough time to walk to the summit of Beinn An Lochain, today I didn't make it all the way to the summit of Ben Vorlich.
When I woke up this morning I could hear the rain falling on to the window (the room I'm staying in has one of these roof windows). By the time I had finished breakfast the rain had eased and I could even see some blue sky. I decided to give it a try and drove out to Inveruglas. It was still quite cloudy and it rained again. After a while the rain stopped and it started to clear up, looking like it might stay dry for a while. It was 11:30 by now, quite a bit later than I had hoped.
Nevertheless I decided to give it a go and see how far I could get, so I quickly changed and left. The walk turned out very nice, with excellent views over Loch Lomond and south west over the Arrochar Alps.
When I finally saw the summit of Ben Vorlich it was a bit too late to go all the way without risking having to walk back a large part of the way in the dark, something I wasn't too keen on. So I turned around and walked back, enjoying some more great views. It was almost dark by the time I returned to the car.
Not sure yet what I'll do tomorrow, the weather forecast isn't too great. Walking or museum?
