Fresh Bread
The ingredients alone were more expensive than just buying a loaf of bread at the supermarket, but then again it would have only tasted half as nice: I've baked my own bread again. I'm not entirely sure, but the last time was probably almost a year ago. Definitely time to do it again!
Here's the recipe I used this time (not that much different from last time). Ingredients:
- 430g wholemeal flour (to cater for the amount of buttermilk I had)
- 3 tablespoons sunflower seeds
- 1 teaspoon each baking soda, salt and brown sugar
- 284ml buttermilk (Can someone explain to me why Yoplait is selling buttermilk in this strange size? Do 284ml equate to some imperial measure?)
- 2 tablespoons of sunflower oil
- 1 egg
- 1-2 tablespoons sunflower seeds to sprinkle on top
The process:
- Preheat oven to 200°C
- Mix everything apart from the buttermilk together
- Make sure that the loaf tin is lightly oiled
- Mix the buttermilk into the other ingredients, do this as quick as possible, preferably with some kind of electric mixer and dough hooks. Once the buttermilk and the soda start to react the dough gets very sticky...
- Pour dough into loaf tin, liberally sprinkle with sunflower seeds
- Bake for about 50min (my oven is fan assisted, 50min might be at the upper limit what the bread needs in it. Other ovens might need more time)
And then? Enjoy with a good cuppa and some Colonsay Honey. Delicious!
