John Peel

It is already all over the blogs, the news and probably will be over quite a few more today (and the next few days): John Peel has died. A brief biography. And the obituary by the BBC. For my German readers, Der Spiegel writes about Pop-Legende: Radio-DJ John Peel gestorben. Just surf the blogs and the news websites, you'll find it all over the place.

If you read German there is also an interesting interview/report with Die Zeit in Germany for his 65th birthday. And a similar one in The Independent, also for his 65th birthday.

I probably first heard him when I discovered BFBS over in Germany. Or possibly with Radio Bremen, I think they transmitted some of his shows for a while. When I moved to the UK he was obviously on Radio 1, but also later on Radio 4. I found it really fascinating, hearing him playing some really obscure music and then a few days later hearing him on Home Truths. I'll miss him.

Thanks John.
